We have completed Phase IV of the update process: seeking recommendations from the South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC). We are pleased to present the Draft South Maui Community Plan, which builds upon extensive community input, coordination with other County and State departments, and best planning practices to promote complete, healthy and resilient communities. The Plan provides a long-term vision for South Maui and serves as a policy guide for County agencies, the Maui Planning Commission, and County Council on projects and decisions that impact South Maui. The Draft Plan is currently undergoing extensive review by the South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee.

About the CPAC
The South Maui CPAC is a 13-member committee made up of South Maui residents appointed by the Maui County Council and Mayor to provide community input on the updated Draft South Maui Community Plan. Members are tasked with reviewing and recommending revisions to the updated Draft Plan, and provide guidance on local issues that influence the physical, social, and economic development of their community.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a CPAC member?
The following list gives you an idea of the roles and responsibilities of a CPAC member. This list should not be considered all inclusive.
- Elect a chair and vice chair.
- Review the Draft Plan and supporting documents and data.
- Develop recommendations for the Draft Plan.
- Attend meetings prepared to participate (read materials prior to meetings).
- Comply with Rules of Practice and Procedure and the Sunshine Law.
- Coordinate with Planning Department staff.
- Listen to public testimony and serve as the voice of the local community.
- Come with an open mind prepared to listen to all points of view.
- Be willing to compromise and address South Maui’s diverse community as equitably as possible.
